Partnerships
A unique environment
The overall objective of the SWS program is to promote and develop war studies in the fields of human and social sciences. With its base at Université Paris 1 Panthéon–Sorbonne, SWS is singularly well equipped for this mission. Among these assets:
- A strong collective identity and an international reputation bolstered by a number of partnerships with other universities abroad (Una Europa, Programme Alliance). Long-standing and continually renewed ties with government bodies and businesses in the defense sector; these links include agreements with the Direction Générale de l'Armement and the Direction de l'Enseignement Militaire Supérieur, and a Chair of Major Contemporary Strategic Issues established with the Fondation Saint-Cyr in 2013.
- A staff of over 1,000 professor–researchers, offering an original disciplinary outlook that is nourished by three major fields of academics: law and political science; economics, management, mathematics and information science; archeology, fine arts, art history, geography, history, languages, philosophy, and social sciences.
- A rich catalogue of courses and degree programs, with some 20 master's programs in Law, Economics, Geography, History, and Political Science, focusing on the topics of security, defense and conflicts.
- Strong research potential based on the work of some 40 laboratories and research units, and 10 doctoral programs.
- Defense issues and topics—in law, history, political science, sociology, geography, development studies—are at the forefront of research in this research work.
